About us
After years within the camping and glamping industry building hard glamping units such as log cabins and shepherd huts and helping to set up over 50 glamping sites, and seeing many disappointed owners not able to proceed due to strict planning laws we decided to set up BeeGreen Camping Club with the intention of trying to streamline to the process to running a site. With the added benefit of helping our delining bee population, and with general conservation in mind.
We simply ask that you implement www.bumblebeeconservation.org bee saving strategy on all our sites. By planting a few bee friendly flora around your site, you can quickly get your dream glamping site up and running. Apply here today using our online application form.
As the directors of www.moonlightshuts.co.uk and running our own shepherd hut site, we are experts in all areas of setting up a site, from costings, potential income, drainage, power requirements, off grid sites, transport, wood burners and just about everything else you can think of, there isn't much we can't help with, we really have seen and done it all.
Starting a glamping site by going through the planning system can be more difficult. By using us as an exempted organisation we can get you up and running legally. We will contact your local planning dept and inform them of your plans.
We're looking for like minded site owners that share our ethos in conservation, we love rural sites that will provide relaxing and peaceful stays. Off grid isn't a problem and unlike nearly all other organisations, we don't require you live on site. You must provide drinking water and toilets. This can be bottled water and a compost loo if in a rural location. So whether you want to start you glamping site near your home with all the luxuries or further afield with a back to basics approach we can help.
The amount of accommodation that we grant a licence for will depend on the size of your site and the facilities provided. Each site will be assessed on it’s individual merits. All people who stay at your must become members of our club (free to join).
Suitable land/sites
Any units must be well screened/sheltered. Open sites that are visible to surrounding areas will generally not be suitable. Some sites may benefit and be improved by way of tree planting/hedging.
other barriers to certification:
Any close by neighbours (within 50m) who disagree with your site and will be effected by it.
Poor access onto the public highway. Near busy roads.
If an article 4 direction has been served on the land/local area which prohibits camping. Or any other enforcement action.
Being within the ‘curtilage’ of a listed building may not be suitable.
An exemption certificate does not allow for permanent construction of buildings or ground works The exemption certificate only allows for moveable structures such as shepherd huts. No footings may be used and any decks must be freestanding and sitting on top on the ground, the area must be returned to its natural conditions within 48 hours if your exemption certificate is revoked.
Your exemption may be revoked at any time due to repeated nuisance behaviour and complaints from neighbours etc.
How much does it cost?
£500 consultation fee, then if successful, a £300 annual membership fee. This is for up to 5 huts/pods and 10 tents pitches. Please fill in the application form, we will then contact you for payment to begin the consultation, and conduct a site survey, we will then inform your local planning department of our intention to issue you with an exemption certificate. Providing no neighbours or your local planning department don't object, we can then issue you with a certificate. Consultation fees are none refundable in the event we're unable to issue a certificate.
